Your home is your sanctuary, and with choosing between candles, diffusers and more, making sure you get your desired scent through your home can be tricky. We're here to point you in the right direction, to make sure that you love the smell of your home.
How many different scents should you have?
At minimum, three. You'll want one smell for your bathrooms, a different one for the main living area and another for your bedroom. Depending on how many bedrooms you have will determine how many in total, especially if the kids have a particular one they're after.
What type of fragranced product should I use?
When choosing between candles and diffusers, you have to think about what is going to be the safest in each space. Your diffusers are open liquid bottles and if hit, will spill fragrance oil everywhere which will strip any plastic or carpet. While your candles can be a fire hazard (hence our safety warning at the bottom of this blog).
Keeping that in mind, we suggest your main house to be diffusers. Make sure they are kept out of the way and not in a high usage area, to avoid spilling. They will still need to be in reach so you can turn those reeds. We also love burning candles in the living areas of the home, so it's up to you which you prefer (or if you do both, like us).
In the bathrooms, we suggest diffusers. You can't keep an eye on the candles in these spaces and to keep them smelling fresh and clean, a diffuser is perfect for continually releasing fragrance.
In the bedrooms we suggest candles. This is because these areas (especially with kids) are high use and the chances of a diffuser spilling is higher. If you have candles which have a strong cold throw, then you can have the room smelling great without having to worry about anything being knocked over.
Safety Warning: Do not leave candles unattended if they are burning. If in a child's room, we do not suggest lighting the candle, but allowing the cold throw of the candle (the smell of it without lighting it) to fragrant the room.
What fragrances should I use?
This one is more of a personal choice. We choose the really fresh smelling fragrances for our bathrooms, it makes smell clean and inviting. In the kitchen and main living area we choose herbal based fragrances as they create a sense of calm. This also allows for us to burn candles when we're home without the fragrances clashing. In the bedrooms, we choose our favourite fragrances. This is our space and we want to make it unique to us. A few of our favourites include the Oriental Myrrh & Musk, Wooded Musk, Coconut Crepe, just to name a few.
